I recently purchased an Elinchrom ELB 500 lighting setup and decided to learn how to use it on vacation. So in the bag I packed the lights, 7″ reflector with grids, 22″ Portalite, an Impact QuickStik and my Canon 5DMk3 with 3 lenses (85, 24-70 and 135). Separately I packed my portable light stand in my suitcase. I also had the Elinchrom Skyport with HSS.Everything worked great and I learned how everything worked and was very happy with the lights and integration of the whole setup. The only disappointment was the Skyport as that seems to only allow the A and B ports to be treated as 1 group whereas if you use the Odin II setup you can treat them as separate groups allowing you to control them independently. Not a huge deal, but it would be a convenience if the Skyport system allowed you to do that as well.Overall, this was a reasonably compact setup that allowed me to travel easily (though I may consider using a rolling bag instead next time). The bag fit comfortably in the overhead compartment on my flights and I was even able to fit my laptop (15″ MacBook Pro) and iPad Mini in the side pocket. Looking forward to more learning and may switch to the Odin II system as that would allow me to use my canon flashes and integrate other lighting into the system. Will update as I continue to use the system.
