I got an Aerogarden about a year ago. It came with the the pods, seeded grow sponges & humidity domes & was designed to grow herbs. It was great. It grew a lot of herbs, which I harvested & froze for use throughout the year.I wanted to try growing some vegetables & used this set to plant tomatoes, banana peppers & lettuce. I keep harvesting veggies & these just keep growing & producing more. So far, I’m having fun with the current vegetables that are growing, but I’m sure that I’ll want to try growing some other things & there are plenty of components for future plantings. My Aerogarden has spaces for six plants & there are enough pods, sponges & the other needed components for five separate plantings, which is great. So far everything is growing very well. When it is warm enough to move the veggies outdoors in a couple of weeks, I plant them in pots & put them on the deck & then start another batch of something – haven’t decided yet – using more of the things from this kit. It’s a nice kit & I’d recommend it to others. Even if you don’t have an Aerogarden, you can plant the seeds of your choice, place the humidity caps over the tops & place the sponges in a glass to hold & water them. Or you can plant the sponges, place them in pots with soil & top with the humidity domes until the plants are mature enough that they no longer need the domes. The soil will hold them upright. You can water them & as the plants grow, the roots will grow through the sponges & into the pots.Update 4/12/24: I just completed a big harvest today. It’s the 5th harvest of these plants. I’ve been cutting the material leaves & leaving the smaller leaves to grow. That’s a big, 1-gallon bag with the harvested lettuce. I’ve been harvesting that much or more every week for the last 5 weeks. Today, I added some additional seeds to each pod. I didn’t use new pods. The Romaine lettuce stalks are getting tall & I’m not sure how much longer they’ll grow well because they’re getting close to the grow light. As an experiment, I cut some of the stalks shorter, as well as planting more seeds. I’m not sure if there’s still enough green on the cut plants to continue photosynthesizing. I’ll know in a couple of days. If they don’t survive, the seeds I planted today will sprout in 2 days & we’ll still have fresh lettuce. This is great – completely natural lettuce with no chemicals or sprays. I don’t even need to wash it. I just cut the leaves individually & store them in a big ziplock bag with a damp paper towel to keep it crispy.
